Canada CRS Score

Updated: July 4th, 2024

The Canadian government uses the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) to assess aspiring immigrants who wish to obrain a permanent residence status through Express Entry. The logic is straightforward; the higher you score on your immigration profile, the better chances you have of getting selected for a visa by the IRCC.

How is Your CRS Score Calculated?

Every candidate’s CRS score is calculated based on a number of factors, such as age, education level, work experience in Canada and elsewhere (i.e the total number of years of work experience in their profession), proficiency level in English or French, and more. The score calculation may slightly differ depending on whether they are immigrating alone or with their spouse.

Spouses or common-law partners joining the immigration process will have their background and skills assessed as well.

What Aspects Can Help You Score Higher

Age is a significant factor. For example, people who are 20-29 years old will score higher points compared to people in their 30s and 40s. However, there are other aspects under your control; scoring a high grade on language proficiency tests (such as IELTS or TEF), gaining more work experience or possibly obtaining relevant diploams could boost your points as well.
