Provincial Nominee Program

Updated: July 4th, 2024

This well-known immigration program aims to attract foreign workers to different provinces to fill vacancies in various essential industries. Each province and territory has its own streams and requirements, and may target one or more of the following groups:

  • Students
  • Skilled and semi-skilled workers
  • Business professionals

Candidates can enroll in this immigration program in two ways: through the Express Entry program or directly. Regardless of the method chosen, they must meet the requirements set by the Express Entry program (if they are nominated) and the specific province. While the requirements may be similar, provinces often include additional attributes or skills they deem necessary.

The Express Entry immigration programs are Federal Skilled Worker (FSWP), Federal Skilled Trade (FSTP), and Canadian Experience Class (CEC). To receive a nomination from one of the provinces or territories participating in the Provinical Nominee Program, you must already qualify for one of the three Express Entry programs.

The participating provinces and territories are often the following:

  • Alberta
  • British Columbia
  • Manitoba
  • New Brunswick
  • Newfoundland and Labrador
  • Northwest Territories
  • Nova Scotia
  • Ontario
  • Prince Edward Island
  • Saskatchewan
  • Yukon
